THANKS AND WELCOME

Letter from St. Sylvester’s Parish Pastoral Council
Following the announcement of Fr. Tanham’s appointment as Parish Priest of St. Michael’s in Athy, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Fr. Tanham on behalf of the Parish Pastoral Council and all our parishioners for his nine years of dedication and service to our parish.
I am aware that we will all miss him very much and can assure you that we will be arranging a suitable occasion in due course where we will all have the opportunity to show him our appreciation and thanks for those years of service.
I am also pleased to announce that Archbishop Diarmuid Martin has appointed Msgr. Peter Briscoe, currently Parish Priest of Sandymount, to be Administrator in the Parishes of St. Sylvester, Sacred Heart (Yellow Walls), St. Anne’s, Portmarnock and St. Nicholas of Myra, Kinsealy.
Whilst these parishes will continue as independent parishes we now have to recognise that parishes working together are going to be the template of ministry in the future for our diocese. As Msgr. Briscoe arrives, I would like to assure him of the support of our Parish Pastoral Council in working with all of our neighbouring parishes to ensure that these changing structures work for the benefit of us all.

Charlie Farrell, Chairman, St. Sylvester’s Parish Pastoral Council.

Maureen moves on

This is the second year of training for Parish Workers in the Archdiocese of Dublin. Since September last Maureen Hibbs has be working with us. All who came in contact with her enjoyed the experience.
Maureen finished her time with us last week and is about to begin working in Donaghmede Parish. We thank her being with us and for her work among us and we wish her every success in the future.
Maureen asked us to publish a few lines from her. Here they are:

A Few Lines from Maureen Hibbs

Trainee Parish Worker

“My time in the Parish has very quickly come to an end. Following my assessment report with Ellie from Clonliffe College and the priests of the parish, I realised that I had been involved a lot in parish activities, including prayer, relationships and education. It has been a very fruitful experience. A big thank you for the very warm welcome I received. Thank you to the parish team and to all the groups who welcomed me into their meetings. Thank you to individuals and families who have very openly let me share in their lives during this time. Please be assured of my prayers and thank you for yours.
Maureen.”

Dear Parishioner/Malahider,
I am happy to introduce this Parish Website to you. It has been produced by members of our Parish Pastoral Council. The Website aims to give useful information and to help us to know each other and the workings of the Parish better.

It is also an invitation to you to give some of your time and talents in serving others through the parish. Our Parish of Saint Sylvester, Malahide, has a long and rich history and has faced many different challenges at different times. In our time there is need for a vibrant Christian community which we can be proud to belong to, which is open and inclusive, and which will support and challenge us humanly and spiritually.

There are many elements of parish life and many possibilities for improvement – social/hospitality; spirituality/liturgy/sacraments/prayer; pastoral/caring action; schools/education; marriage and family life; young people; communication; lay involvement; administration/ finance/ resources/ facilities; ecumenical action etc

If you would like to give some of your time to an aspect of Parish life, please contact the
Parish Office.

Wishing you every blessing.

Tanham
