Some parishioners have told me that they are finding it difficult to get used to the changes in the wording of the Mass. This is understandable because few of us like change. With this in mind over the next couple of weeks, when space allows, I hope to put together a few words in an effort to explain why they were made. However, all of us need to remember that the Mass is our sharing in the mystery of Salvation. The part of the Mass that reminds me of how I should try to link my entire life with Christ is when the gifts are offered in my name.
At most Masses the gifts are brought up to the Altar by two members of the congregation. These two people represent you and me.
This part of the Mass also reminds me of the millions of ways we can all pray during each day. We can offer our work, the sweat and tears and the good times and each thing we do in a day to God. In our minds we could even put some sorrow, stress or pain away and keep it to offer at the Sunday Mass. The same can be done with our joys, laughs, smiles and celebrations. The Mass is our celebration.
